dbt Models Integration: now supporting GitLab repositories

Improvement

The Census dbt Models integration now supports repositories hosted in GitLab, in addition to GitHub. Use the dbt Models integration to sync your dbt models directly to destinations, view your dbt model definitions, and build Census Entities and Segments off of dbt models.

When setting up the dbt Models integration on the Models > dbt Project page, you'll now have the option to select your git hosting provider.

Git-backed Models: Use Git to govern your Reverse ETL workflows

New

Git-backed Models is a bi-directional Git integration that enables data teams to manage Census SQL models with software development best practices.

Bring all the benefits of Git to your Reverse ETL workflows. πŸš€

In summary, Git-backed Models offer:

  • Resources as Code: Specify your Census SQL models in YAML configuration files.

  • Bi-directional updates: UI or Code – it’s up to you! You and your team members will still have the freedom to make changes in the Census UI (according to your level of access control), or make changes by updating the YAML configuration files in your Git repository.

  • Git-Backed Change History: You can already view and rollback changes to Census SQL models directly within the Census UI. Now – view them as they relate directly to Git commits, either initiated in code or directly in the Census UI.

We’re accepting customers to our beta program now!

Just hit cmd⌘+K (Mac) or ctrl+K (Windows) or click on the search box. The Quick Search bar will automatically suggest relevant results as you type, and you can then select any result to be taken directly there.

Also, you can navigate faster with shortcuts in Quick Search. For example, type new sync and hit enter to be taken directly to the sync creation page, or segment to create a new Segment πŸ™Œ

dbt Version Detection + 1.4.1 Support

Improvement

The Census dbt integration now supports version 1.4.1 as its default, but if you require an earlier version in your dbt project, Census will use that version instead. We've upgraded the Census dbt integration so that it always utilizes a version compatible with your dbt project.

Census will now detect a compatible dbt version via the require-dbt-version parameter in your dbt_project.yml file, and use this version when compiling models and running CI Checks. If no version is detected, Census will use its latest supported version (1.4.1 right now).

See the version used in your integration by navigating to Models > dbt Project in your workspace. For more details, please visit our docs.
